Zuleika Country House

Found in: Guesthouses / B&B, Hoedspruit, Honeymoon Destinations, Limpopo, Lodges, Safari Lodges, Valley of the Olifants

Zuleika Country House is a TGCSA 4 star guest house, centrally situated on a working citrus farm 14km outside Hoedspruit. Zuleika Country House provides the best of everything.

A beautiful semi-formal 1.5hectare garden fringed by lowveld bush and lemon orchards, with a fascinating collection of bird-filled trees, shrubs and indigenous plants. Outside, the romantic terrace offers breathtaking views of the canyon promontory. Active guests of all ages and inclinations will find no end of entertainment within easy reach of Zuleika. White-water rafting, canyoning, ballooning, game drives, elephant
rides, and cliff sidewalks, Panorama Route Tours and Kruger Park day visits.

The less active, meanwhile, can relax in the garden or on the terrace with a sundowner, can take a dip in the elevated pool or stroll down to the Blyde for some hippo watching.

The four private, luxury suites with stunning mountain views, the six semi-luxury guest rooms and five self-catering units all combine natural materials with a modern look, without sacrificing comfort. This has resulted in large stone-based beds with mahogany or bark headboards, slate or stone floors (some areas fashioned with pebbles collected along the Blyde banks) adorned with kelims or reed mats, and lofty ceilings (some thatched) with large fans (though all rooms have air-conditioning ). Handmade quilts, white veiled bed canopies and dusky-colored walls contribute to an ambiance that is both cozy and exotic. Bathrooms are en-suite. Doors open toward the garden, many
offering sublime mountain views.

Breakfasts feature a continental buffet of local produce as well as a hot English breakfast. Every night a delicious three-course meal, often featuring local dishes created by superb chef Maria Mokwena is served on the sweeping terrace looking out toward the canyon.

We are very excited about our new addition, Coffee@Zuleika which offers hearty breakfasts, lovely light meals and delicious treats as well as a big garden for the kids to play in.

Directions from Johannesburg/Pretoria
Take N4 motorway eastward (direction White River), get off at Belfast. From there head for Lydenburg on the R36 via Dullstroom. After Lydenburg continue on the R36 in the direction of Tzaneen. Negotiate the Abel Erasmus Pass (drive carefully!). After the Strydom Tunnel DO NOT take a left as the R36 continues on to Tzaneen. Instead, carry straight on, on the R531 towards Hoedspruit and Eastgate Airport. At the Swadini Reptile Park T-Junction take a right as you stay on the R531 towards Orpen FOR 600m and our driveway is on the right hand side of that road. It’s very well sign posted.

Directions from Nelspruit.
Once you are on the R531 toward Hoedspruit, you keep going straight. You will drive through Klaserie, a small rural settlement and get to a T-junction showing Hoedspruit to the right, KEEP GOING STRAIGHT. After about 20 kms you will see a sign for Swadini on your left, keep going straight, shortly after the Swadini sign you will get the first Zuleika 10kms sign on the leftside of the road. After about 7kms you will find another T-junction toward Hoedspruit, ignore that too. Keep going until you see “Die Plaaskafee” on the right. Zuleika is less than 1km from there on your left, the same entrance as Otters Den. Big white wall with our logo on it. Dont worry, it is very well sign posted!

Zuleika is a pleasant place to visit any time of year. However, it can get quite hot with temperatures approaching 40 degrees celcius in mid-summer (late January-February) when our pool will be busiest… Winters will nonetheless feature values of over 20 degrees celcius in the midday sun. It’s worth bringing suncream therefore. Bird & game spotters shouldn’t forget their binoculars. While there is a malaria risk in the area, it is relatively small compared to that in the northern regions of the Kruger Park and in Mozambique and complimentary sprays are available to keep nosy insects at bay.

Zuleika is happy to find that its popularity runs right across a varied clientele of families, honeymooners, business professionals, seniors and young travelers, the majority of whom tend to be overseas visitors.
