Dugong Beach Lodge is situated on the East-African Seaboard, on the Coast of Mozambique within the boundaries of the “Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary”; the first Privately Managed Specially Protected National Park in Mozambique.

Located on 30 000 hectares of pristine Marine and Wildlife territory, it provides a unique Beach & Wilderness Experience in a hidden corner of sub-tropical Africa. This diverse Eco-system of wilderness and wetland, with its powder white beaches and crystal clear water is host to a magnificent array of fish, dolphin and most importantly, the nearly extinct “Atlantic Dugong” (which resembles a sea lion).

Also found on land are Livingstone’s Eland, Blue Wildebeest, Plains Zebra, Giraffe, Nyala, Red Duiker, Suni, Steenbok and Grey Duiker. You will be liable for passenger tax, immigration tax and airport tax. Please confirm rate prior to departure. Ensure that you have the correct amounts in CASH - either in US$ or ZAR. All guests visiting the Lodge - situated in the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary - will be liable for a Conservation Fee of approx. US$15 per person per stay. This cost is NOT included in the accommodation rate and is payable directly at the Lodge upon Check-In or Check-Out.

Health Precautions
The Archipelago is a malaria area and it is advisable to wear protective clothing such as long sleeve tops and trousers in the evening. Ensure that you consult your doctor or pharmacist about a suitable malaria prophylactic. All personal mediation should be brought with you, as well as suntan lotion, sun block creams, malaria tablets and antihistamine creams as there is no pharmacy.

Solar Power/Generator
Due to the remoteness of Dugong Beach Lodge power is obtained from a combination of solar and generator power. The generator operates for a few hours as the sun begins to set until approximately half an hour after the last guest has gone to bed. Limited essential lighting & ceiling fans can still operate after the generator has been switched off due to solar power.

Water
The water has been professionally tested and although it is safe for drinking, mineral water is available.

Wading
Please note that you may be required to wade to the transfer boat depending on the tide. Please ensure that you are prepared and correctly dressed for this - therefore sandals and easy roll up pants or shorts are advised.
