Witmos Oxwagons
Found in: Cottages, Cradock, Eastern Cape, Honeymoon Destinations, Self Catering, The Western RegionGuests are accommodated in professionally restored oxwagons. These wagons dating back 200 years, boast with luxuriously appointed interiors. Luxuries include mosquito netting, real down duvets covered in imported white linen. The floors are all insulated with sisalation and carpeting, while the heavy duty canvas tops (all rain proof) are shield from the heat and cold.
The camp provides accommodation for 10 guests. 5 wagons drawn into a lager formation can sleep 2 guests per wagon . Outside in the sheltered boma guests can sit aside a roaring fire under star studded African skies.
A central building the “Wagon House” constitutes the heart of the camp. It is furnished to fit the entire theme. Here one can enjoy meals at the 16 seater yellowwood table. On the menu you can expect things like : home-made bread and vetkoek, liver in niervet, kudu fillet or karoo lamb. Best of all is our milk tart.
The camp does offer modern ablution facilities and a quaint bush shower under a tree.
Witmos Oxwagon camp site was carefully chosen as a base for eco tourism, set among scattered thorn bushes in a basin among high mountains and cliffs. Enjoy hiking, game drives or just a relaxing away from the bright lights. Witmoskloof is home to the black eagles, a plethora of other birds and several game species. The bird life is endless and 49 species were spotted within an hour on a recent bird watch hike.
Guests have the freedom of exploring a 25 000 ha conservancy formed by four district farmers.
We do offer game drives on arrangement. We also offer 4X4 Routes, mountain bike trails, walking trails, and trout and fly fishing in close proximity. On the game drives expect to see Kudu, Mountain Rheedbuck, Zebra, Eland, Red hartebeest, Blue and Black Wildebeest, Bushbuck, Impala, and other small antelope.
In the eveings sit in comfy chairs around our crackling fire, or experience our boma where under the star-studded African night sky you can listen to the roar of the fire and the music of the African night bush.
Indoor entertainment includes puzzle and board games for children and adults (in the true tradition of the unique way of life of the early settlers - before the bright lights and television!)
The beautiful Mountain Zebra Park is 90 km away (less than an hour). Also in close proximity are the Addo Elephant park, the Valley of Desolation (Graaff-Reinet), the 1820 Settler Monument (Grahamstown) and for the die-hard must-have-lights person, the Coastal city of Port Elizabeth.

Directions to Witmos Oxwagons
The camp is situated in the tourist attractive Eastern Cape, 2,5 hours from Port Elizabeth. GPS = S 32* 32’ 30” – E25* 40’ 15”. Detailed directions are as follows:
FROM PORT ELIZABETH
Travel from Port Elizabeth on the N2 for 46 km. Take the N10 towards Cradock. From Cookhouse continue on the N10, after 21 km turn left to Klipfontein. Continue to the T junction, turn right to Witmos, keeping left for 15 km.
FROM CRADOCK
On the N10 South from Cradock 57 km towards Cookhouse and Port Elizabeth is a turnoff to your right called Witmos Station it also has our OXWAGON CAMP sign. Continue on the dirt road , over a railway line and a few 100 meters further cross the Great fish river. At the T junction turn right follow the signs to our house Witmoskloof C.A. Nel and we will escort you to the camp.
